When Tory Westhoff, the owner of the Sleeper Mortuary in Kansas commented on one of our TikTok videos, I was intrigued to learn more about this place. Our rapid-fire conversation through that app’s inbox offered a quick introduction to the history of the mortuary, Tory’s plans for the building and her deep interest in the paranormal.

I knew immediately that I wanted to learn more and that bringing Tory on to talk with me for an episode was the right way to kick off our sixth season in 2025. Fortunately, Tory was open to the idea and soon we were engrossed in a Zoom call that detailed her history and the history of the building.

This episode is a bit unique in that as of the recording, Tory didn’t know a whole lot about the hauntings of the building. She definitely knows that the mortuary is haunted, but when we spoke she was at the very beginning of her exploration of the paranormal side of the building. She was under contract and just about to receive the keys to open the doors to interested paranormal investigators around the country.
