The Hacienda Hotel in New Port Richey, Fla., is a Mediterranean-style pink hotel dating back to 1927. While the venue has been recently renovated and returned to its former glory and is again welcoming guests, the hotel long sat dormant and was the site of break ins and alleged paranormal sightings.
With the hotel now restored and open again, Historian Bob Langford and hotel public relations manager Dylan Gamez share their stories of the hotel’s history and their own encounters with the spirits that they believe still reside within the 40-room hotel along Florida’s Gulf coast.

The Inspiration Behind The Episode
HACIENDA HOTEL
Before this episode of Phantom History, I was not aware of the Hacienda Hotel in New Port Richey. That was suprising to me, especially since New Port Richey isn’t too far away from my home in Tampa. However, thanks to the power of social media, I soon learned that this important historic and haunted landmark was making a grand re-entrance into the world thanks to a message from Dylan Gamez on Facebook.
Dylan serves as the hotel’s marketing and public relations manager and is a follower of the podcast. When she contacted me and shared stories of the hotel’s past and haunted present, I knew I wanted to gain her perspective. She was also happy to connect me to Bob Langford, a local historian and a powerful resource for saving the Hacienda Hotel from demolition.
Thanks to both of them, this episode dives into a site that I am excited to visit in person in the near future and I take comfort in knowing that it’s just a short drive away for me.
