You Need A Night Off
You may know that I’m working this Fall at a Halloween event at Sea World Orlando. I am a tour guide taking a group around the park and doing my best to give them a terrific experience. One of my favorite parts of this job is when I have the opportunity to meet and interact with guests around the park.
Last night I had gotten my group settled into their seats for one of the shows and I stumbled upon a group of three “women of a certain age” who were relaxing at a table in the show area.
It turned out that this was a group of school teachers who were having a night out for fun. Two of them had been friends for 33 years since their kids were in preschool together! Only one of them had taken the next day off, and it seemed she may have allowed herself to indulge a bit more than the other two. I was glad to see it!
No one deserves a night out with friends more than teachers! It was clear to me that these ladies were certainly benefiting from some quality time off with friends. Teaching can be stressful and we all need to release some tension and enjoy time away from the regular stresses of our lives.
I mentioned to the ladies that they had great seats for the show, and they were surprised to hear there was a show at all! They had simply found a nice table to sit down together for a few minutes. I then had the wonderful opportunity to get them special front row seats for the show, seats so good you could even reach out and touch the abs on Havoc, the sexy skeleton man who leads the show. Of course, this is not recommended, but being up close to performers giving you 100% is always exciting and even inspiring. What fun it was to watch them enjoy this up close experience with the performers! Mouths agape and cameras at the ready, I feel confident it was one of the highlights of their evening.
Take the time to rejuvenate yourself and turn off the stresses of your busy life. Even during marching season you can turn off your phone one night and spend time with those that make you happy. Watch a movie, go out for some screams, or do whatever will bring you the most joy. (Close encounter with sexy skeleton man optional.)
We work hard and you must take care of yourself. Find those friends and give yourself the gift of some time off.
