A Life With No Problems
“I wish I had a life with no problems.” You may have heard someone say this, or you may have uttered these words yourself. Doesn’t it sound wonderful, a life where nothing ever goes wrong and you have no stress or difficulties in any way!
My wonderful teacher Dr. Kennedy Shultz once said that wishing for a life with no problems is like wishing for a straight line on your EKG!
Problems are the way life has of helping us grow. A problem points out something that needs our attention, that we need to address and improve. It’s a natural system of helping us identify the areas of our life that we need to focus on.
So the next time you are confronted with a problem, consider stepping back for a moment and saying “Ah, here’s a chance for me to grow and flourish. What do I need to do here to make things better?”
Don’t moan and sulk and be upset that a problem has appeared. Reframe it in your thinking as an opportunity!
Perhaps my hips and glutes are always tight. Maybe I need to invest in a roller and spend more time stretching. Or perhaps I need some new shoes. How long HAS it been since I made that investment?
If I can’t get my flagline clean, there’s something I need to learn and do. If the music always falls apart at letter C, I need to figure out something that my students need to learn. And if I can’t function happily, maybe it’s time to talk with a professional and get some new tools so my life moves a little smoother.
Life doesn’t hang us out to dry. There are people all around us ready to help us. There are brilliant color guard and music technicians ready to help, there are therapists you can even talk with on zoom, or doctors or consultants or accountants or whatever you may need!
Don’t fret, just look for the helpers. And be glad that your problem got your attention. Here’s your opportunity to grow and make your life more wonderful!
